Community in Schools hosts Annual Future Now Finance at PHS

Freshman at Pittsburg High School experienced some of the “realities” involved in preparing for an employable future and adulthood yesterday at the Communities in Schools Annual Future Now Finance event.  The freshman class attended the event in different sessions throughout the day.

With the help of PSU Enactus club and area volunteers, Freshman students were each received an adult scenario based on a survey they have completed prior to the event. The scenarios include marital status, number of children, career field, and net monthly income (based on the choice of career field and current GPA).  During the event, students visit a variety of booths to “purchase” housing, transportation, communication services, child care, food, utilities, insurance, etc. They also have the opportunity to save money, give to charity and learn about unexpected things that affect daily life (e.g. accidents, unexpected visitors, flat tires).

This year's event was organized by PHS CIS Coordinator LC Davis in partnership with the Pittsburg State University Enactus Club.
